Most people think the word “bug” in tech is just a fancy way to say there’s a problem. But the truth is, it actually started with a real insect.
Back in 1947, some engineers were working on a huge computer. Out of nowhere, the machine started acting weird. When they opened it to find the issue, they discovered a moth stuck inside the system.
They carefully removed it and wrote in their logbook, “First actual case of a bug being found.”
That tiny insect became a part of history.
From that day on, people began calling any computer error or glitch a “bug.” And when they fix it, they say they’re “debugging.”
It’s kind of funny if you think about it — a small moth gave birth to one of the most common tech words used today. Even now, when something goes wrong in a program, we still call it a bug, just like they did back then.
